Overview

Year after year, Begonia Apricot Fiery Shades features in our best-selling bedding and basket plants.

Why? It\'s undoubtedly the combination of fantastic performance in baskets and tubs whatever the summer weather, combined with the gorgeous blend of warm tones and shades that the mix produces.

This beautiful variety has flowers in wonderfully warm shades of yellow, gold, apricot, orange and ochre that will fill your hanging baskets and patio containers with colour from May until October!

The blooms are incredibly weather proof, long lasting and plentiful, held on strong healthy plants with a gently trailing growing habit.

They look best simply on their own, as there is enough subtle colour variation not to look too overdone. One for the short-list for sure.

We’re also including a pair of attractive, terracotta look UV stable, 26cm diameter planters and a 20L bag of professional compost:

This is the best compost available, now with reduced peat content. A bespoke professional mix made to our exacting recipe from one of Europe\'s leading blenders.

It contains 50% composted wood fibre, to open the mix up and get air to the roots, and a precise blend of 3 different grades of peats to balance drainage and water holding.

With added lime, it is pH balanced to give the optimum growing conditions and with starter fertiliser and a wetting agent, to ensure even water distribution in pots and container, it will get your plants off to a head-start.

On top of that it contains a 6 Month Controlled Release Fertiliser - meaning whatever you grow will get a slow and steady stream of nutrients for 6 Months.

Care

Begonia ‘Apricot Shades’ grows well in sun and shade, and its trailing habit makes it perfect for growing in pots and hanging baskets.

Begonia tubers will start into growth from February onwards. The easiest way is to put them into shallow tray with a good quality compost which has been moistened.

Plant the tubers with the domed side downwards and the hollow uppermost. Shoots will start to emerge depending on temperature. We recommend that you start them off in a warm room.

As soon as the shoots of the tubers are about 2cm (1in) long pot them up in 15cm (4in) pots. As soon as the roots reach the sides of the pot, they\'re ready to go into baskets.

Alternatively, you can plant the tubers straight into baskets and tubs where they are to flower and grow them on in warm, frost-free conditions.

Outside, grow in full sun or partial shaded areas. The sunnier the site, the more vibrant the colours will be.

Feed once every two weeks with a high potassium feed while in flower, and deadhead regularly to encourage further flowers.

For best results keep plants well watered, and feed fortnightly with a high-potash fertiliser to prolong flowering. Take care not to over-water, as this will cause new begonia flower buds to drop.

Remove faded flowers to encourage more blooms.
