Care

Once established, apples and pears need very little care. Water during dry spells especially if?newly planted or in containers.

In early spring, sprinkle a general fertiliser around the base of the tree.

Apples & pears should be pruned every year. Timing and method of pruning depends on the type of fruit you are growing, and the style of tree.

Plum trees will additionally need to have fruit thinned to ease congestion and weight on the branches.

Your crop of plums can be greatly increased by regular feeding and watering. Because they can set heavy crops, plums respond well to fertilisers, especially nitrogen.

Established trees can be mulched in mid-spring to help retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and provide nitrogen. 

Pruning should be carried out in spring or summer - avoid pruning in the dormant season or in mid to late autumn, as there is risk of infection from silver leaf disease and bacterial canker.
